Really Simple Syndication (RSS)

OnTheButton is designed to be used by teachers.   OnTheButton is likely to contain data to which pupils should not have access and pupil access is not encouraged.

However there will be specific content, eg news, which would be more valuable if shared with a wider audience, ie pupils. RSS provides an automated facility to do just that.  Using RSS, selected news items can be shared with the wider (pupil) audience.

A newsreader is software that checks the news feed and lets you read any new articles that have been added.  They are sometimes called RSS readers, feed readers, feed aggregators, news readers or search aggregators.
 

Reaching the Audience

There are different ways to ensure your 

news reaches your audience.

• via a central screen, eg large display screens in foyer, halls or meeting areas
• via a traditional websites, ie dynamically add OnTheButton news to the site
• via client based newsreader software, ie straight to multiple PCs
